Marcus Fischer (he/him) is an interdisciplinary artist and musician based in Portland. A biracial, first generation American, Fischer’s work spans performance, installation, image and object making, education and public engagement most often tied together using the common thread of sound. Using sound as a conduit he is able to find resonances with an audience and express ideas, feelings and emotions beyond words or images alone. Often using analog technologies like extremely long loops of audio tape which put on display the passage of time and exposed speakers demonstrating the tactile, physical nature of sound. 

Marcus Fischer contributed two sound works and two performances to the 2019 Whitney Biennial and has been selected for residencies at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Rauschenberg Residency, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art and was awarded The Ford Family Foundation’s Hallie Ford Fellowship in the Visual Arts in 2024.

Fischer has recorded and performed nationally & internationally as a solo artist and in collaborations with artists such as Taylor Deupree, Aki Onda, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Laura Ortman & Raven Chacon.
